MOSAICS

I made this mosaic mandala for the Sooke Aquatic centre in 2000. It measures eight feet across, and is made of randomly-broken ceramic tile.	This is the mosaic backsplash I made for our own kitchen. As well as randomly-smashed ceramic tile, it includes pieces of favourite broken china.

I made this maritime-flavoured mosaic for my friend Myra, who broke one of her favourite dishes. She collects crabs, so this was perfect for her.	Here is a mosaic backsplash I designed for a friend who loves tulips (see Public Art Section for more about tulips).

Here is a mosaic panel I made to hang outside our house in Victoria. Called “Sea Garden”, it is a diptych measuring 4 feet x 3 feet overall.	Here is a mosaic I made for some folks who live on the Saanich Peninsula. It hangs in their breeze-way all year.
	Here is “Florca,” who was originally purchased by the Royal Bank (corner Douglas and Fort) in Victoria, and subsequently moved to The Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, BC. For more about Florca, see the Public Art section.

KITCHEN BACKSPLASHES I like to help people mosaic kitchen backsplashes. I charge $300 for doing the design, transferring it to the wall, and getting you started. After that, $25 an hour for advice or for working with you. It’s a course in mosaics in which you end up with a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind new kitchen! Many mosaicists are working with sheets of stained glass. Mine are, rather, in the tradition of Gaudi, (the famous Spanish mosaicist). Much of my work, like his, is actually pique-assiette (broken china), so that you get changes in the angle of reflection of a true mosaic rather than the flatter, more-mechanical look of stained glass.
MOSAIC PANELS Most mosaics are triple-sealed for use outdoors (ideal to hang in a breeze-way or covered porch). If you are interested in buying one, please email me for more information or to arrange for payment, shipping, etc.
